The tears in Whitney’s eyes when she saw her dad for the first time on her wedding day was an outstanding example of why we love weddings. She had just put her dress on, as all her girls around her gushed with happiness for her and how stunningly gorgeous she looked! Whitney stepped outside onto the balcony for some pictures when she saw her dad down below. “Hi Papa” is all she could muster before she just welled up with tears and couldn’t speak, her emotions getting the best of her. Her bridesmaids rushed to her side with tissues, all laughing, and trying to keep her mind off of anything that would ruin her makeup 🙂 It was only a couple minutes before she was collected enough to finish some pictures with her and her girls, but that moment stuck with me the whole day. I love the word Papa, it’s so endearing like Daddy or Abba. When my little girl gets married many MANY years from now and I see her for the first time, I hope that we have that kind of a love for each other that she has tears of joy in her eyes. I know I will.
Emily has known Elijah for years. They met on a trip to New Zealand with our church years ago. Several months ago we ran into Elijah at church so Emily introduced us. My first impression was that Elijah was a passionate kind of guy that is an insanely talented musician. You should hear him sing! Well it wasn’t long before we found out that Elijah was engaged so we had to meet his fiancee! When he introduced us to Whitney, she was just the most amazing girl and it was settled for us right then and there; we knew we HAD to shoot their wedding! We didn’t care what it took; when you run into a couple that you connect so well with, you just know that those are the weddings you want to shoot! We were over the moon when they decided on using us and we have been looking forward to their wedding since. 🙂
Before we knew it, February 22 was already here and it seemed like just yesterday that we started talking to them about their aspirations and ideas for their wedding. Because we have so many mutual friends, Elijah and Whitney really wanted us to shoot but also to enjoy some hang-out time during the reception after we were finished, which we NEVER do 🙂 We both love to dance but at weddings we stay really professional. BUT… since we had become such good friends with them AND we knew half of their guests, we were happy to make an exception just this once 🙂 Elijah and Whitney, we are so excited for you and cannot wish you enough blessings in your new marriage! Your wedding was beyond beautiful and we were so honored to capture it for you!
Here is their wedding story from our point of view. Enjoy! -A
Practicing a song he wrote for his bride.
Maybe my favorite photo of the day; a teary, joy-filled bride who just can’t contain her happiness 🙂
One thing is for sure… Elijah can SING!
We pointed Elijah and Whitney to Desert House Productions to be their DJs and we are SO glad they did! This is Drea bringing the beats that kept everyone on the dance floor…
As I said, it is SO rare for us to put our cameras down and just enjoy ourselves at a wedding reception, but since we were surrounded by friends, we enjoyed some time dancing to our favorite DJs. Here’s a shot I got of Em. 🙂
